Kindling are the slight delicate sticks that on their own are insubstantial. But when gathered together, something formidable can begin.

Both artists take inspiration from being in the woods, getting lost among the trees. For Laura, it is her art studio, a place to discover, create and find shelter. For Jacqueline, found sticks are reminiscent of primal letter forms, a lost alphabet waiting to be assembled and read.

Laura Fox is an environmental visual artist who maps the interaction and experience of children immersed in the landscape. Using film, photography, drawing and printmaking, her work starts with source material collected when spending time collaborating with schools in parks and woodland in north London.

Jacqueline Nicholls is a London based fine artist, Jewish educator, and award winning visual poet. Her main focus of her artistic practice considers handwriting as a form of drawing, inspired by the importance of sacred texts in her Jewish heritage. She is the Creative Director of Jewish Renaissance’s Artist Development Scheme, and regularly teaches at the London School of Jewish Studies. Jacqueline’s art has been exhibited in solo shows and significant contemporary Jewish Art group shows internationally, and her work is held in public and private collections. Jacqueline has an MA in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins. Art. Recent residencies include ‘Wasted Books’ at The London Library, ’50 Jewish Objects’ Jewish Studies Department, Manchester University.. And Beit Venezia, where she was the lead artist for New Venice Haggadah (2016) and the Deck of Esther (2022), reimagining Megillat Esther as a pack of playing cards.
